What is Orthodontics Treatment?
Orthodontic braces treatment is a special dental treatment method that corrects the crookedness of the teeth and the incompatibilities between the jaws, offering an aesthetically and functionally healthy smile. Small square pieces called brackets are glued to the tooth surfaces and the teeth are gradually moved to the desired positions thanks to the thin wires passing between these brackets.
Controlled forces applied during the treatment process reshape the bone structure around the tooth roots, allowing the teeth to recover permanently. Modern orthodontic wire treatments are much more advanced than in the past in terms of both aesthetics and comfort.
Who Is Applied Orthodontic Wire Treatment?
Orthodontic wire treatment is applied to correct the following conditions:

Types of Orthodontic Wire Therapy
Metal Brackets (Traditional Wire Treatment)
It is the most common and economical orthodontic treatment option. Metal brackets made of stainless steel are extremely durable and can be used successfully in all orthodontic cases. Modern metal brackets are not as prominent as they used to be and include advanced mechanisms that shorten the duration of treatment.
Transparent (Porcelain) Brackets
Made of ceramic material close to the tooth color, transparent brackets are ideal for adult patients with aesthetic concerns. It is as effective as metal brackets and attracts less attention in social and professional life.
Lingual Orthodontics (Invisible Wire Treatment)
In this method, where the brackets are placed on the inner surfaces of the teeth (on the tongue side), the wire and brackets are not visible from the outside at all. It is the perfect solution for patients who are looking for a completely hidden treatment.
Self-Locking (Damon) Brackets
In this system, which has a mechanism with a lid instead of the rubber or wire ties used in traditional brackets, friction is reduced and tooth movement is more comfortable. In some cases, it may shorten the duration of treatment and make follow-up appointments infrequent.
Orthodontic Wire Treatment Process
1. Initial Consultation and Planning

2. Placing the Brackets
After cleaning the tooth surfaces, the brackets are attached to the teeth with a special adhesive. Then the main wire passing through the brackets is placed and connected. The first session usually lasts 1-1.5 hours.
3. Active Treatment Period
Wire activations are performed on average every 4-6 weeks at control appointments. In these appointments, the braces are changed or the tooth movement can be continued by adjusting. The duration of treatment varies between 12-36 months depending on the complexity of the case.
4. Retention Period
When the active treatment is completed, the brackets are removed and the retainer (protective plaque) is applied to maintain the new positions of the teeth. This stage is critical for permanent treatment results.

Wire Treatment Care and Recommendations
Oral hygiene is very important during the treatment period. Since food residues may accumulate between the brackets:
